No range limit, no licence, no tower

Coverage is wherever there is Wi-Fi or cellular data. A driver two states away is on the same channel as the yard, with no repeater in between and nothing to licence.

  • No tower leases, no repeater maintenance, no spectrum coordination
  • Adding a site is adding people to a channel, not installing hardware
  • Keeps working on a bad connection. Speech is sent in tiny pieces, and losing a few does not break the sentence

Your radio traffic is not private today

This is the honest reason to switch. Analogue LMR is clear in the air, and conventional DMR is trivially decoded with equipment that costs less than a handset. Anyone within range can listen.

What you actually give up

A page that only lists advantages is a sales pitch, not an evaluation. Two-way radio has genuine properties we do not replicate, and you should size them before switching.

  • Radio works with no network at all. push.tt needs data coverage — if your site has neither Wi-Fi nor cellular, radio is still the right answer
  • Simplex radio keeps working when infrastructure fails; we depend on a server being reachable
  • Battery behaviour differs: a handset running a persistent voice service draws more than a radio in standby

Most operations run both during migration. That is a reasonable end state, not a failure.

Channels map to the talkgroups you already have. Start with one shift, keep the radios on the belt, and move the rest when the crew asks to.
