A channel for every part of the job
A shift, a site, a van, a one-off job. Make a channel for it, choose who is in, and everyone can talk the second they press.
Three kinds of channel, and the app never hides which one you are in
How private a channel can honestly be depends on who is allowed to walk into it. So the app tells you which kind you are in, on the row itself, instead of leaving it in a settings screen for nobody to find.
- Your organisation — everyone who works for you, and nobody else. Locked to your people’s handsets, so not even we can hear it
- Private — you choose who is in, one person at a time, with the same lock on it
- Public — anyone in your workspace can join, so we cannot promise nobody is listening. We say so on the channel rather than let you assume otherwise; it is still scrambled on the way and in storage
One person talks at a time, and everyone can see who
Two people press at the same moment and one of them gets the channel. That is settled in one place, so every handset agrees on who is speaking — and whoever missed out is told immediately, instead of talking to nobody for ten seconds.
- The button tells you where you stand: asking, talking, or somebody else has it
- An emergency always gets through. Someone in trouble never gets a busy signal
- Cut off mid-sentence? What you did manage to say is still saved
Adding someone hands them a key, not just a tick in a box
On a private channel, adding a person gives their handset its own key. That has a useful side effect: the app knows exactly who can really hear the channel, and who only looks like they can.
- Anyone without a key is flagged, rather than quietly receiving audio they cannot play
- Take someone off the channel and they stop hearing anything new from that moment
- Who owns it, who can manage it, and who is just a member — visible where it matters
What we will not claim
You will see other products advertise a few thousand people in a single channel. We have not run that, so we are not going to print it.
- Every extra listener is extra work for the server, and today that is one machine. We would rather write it down than hide it
- What we have tested is live voice across a lot of handsets at once, with one speaker at a time held straight
