Alongside, in port, and across the harbour

The realistic case is coastal and in-port work, where a crew is inside cellular coverage: linesmen, pilots, tugs, bunkering, stevedores and the terminal office all reaching each other without a handheld VHF each.

  • A channel per vessel, per berth or per shift, with one speaker at a time arbitrated by the server
  • Everything is recorded, so a movement order can be replayed rather than repeated over the noise
  • Presence shows who is reachable before you call: available, busy, solo, offline

VHF is a public broadcast. This is not.

Marine VHF is open by design and anyone with a scanner hears it. That is correct for safety traffic and wrong for commercial traffic — cargo, customers, crew matters and security arrangements all go out in the clear.

  • Private and company channels are locked to your own handsets; push.tt carries them without being able to listen
  • No licence, no ship station allocation, and no channel to share with every other vessel in range

To be explicit: push.tt does not replace VHF. Distress, safety and navigation traffic belong on GMDSS and Ch 16, which are monitored by people who are not on your channel. This is commercial coordination alongside it, never instead of it.

Where it stops working

Stated plainly, because at sea the failure mode is being out of contact and finding out too late.

  • Coverage is the network's. Out of cellular range there is no service unless the vessel has a satellite link, and push.tt does not provide one
  • On a metered satellite backhaul, voice costs real money — a 20 ms frame stream is not free
  • A crew crossing borders needs data on arrival; the in-app eSIM store is being built for exactly that, and is not finished

If continuous offshore coverage matters, treat this as a coastal and in-port tool and keep your existing radio. We would rather scope it honestly than sell a vessel a system that goes quiet twelve miles out.
